Lessons, the debut release from The Big Hurt melds elements of Alternative Rock, Reggae, Acid Jazz. Hip Hop, Funk, Drum-n-Bass, Ska, Punk, Latin and Go-Go. Recorded at Waterford Digital in Pasadena, MD with producer Frank Marchand (Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, Toadies and The All Mighty Senators), The Big Hurt went into the studio with a batch of songs reflecting each of the band member’s diverse musical influences. The album’s 10 songs range from heavy guitar driven rock to Acid Jazz melodies over Jungle and Hip-Hop beats to break neck Punk/Ska and Reggae interludes. Although touching on many different musical styles, the result is a singular sound that is at the same time musically complex and refreshingly accessible.

This is Lessons. “If they were easy, they’d be forgotten.”

Hooligans 03:42
Hooligans Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. Music by: The Big Hurt You feel their eyes get full again. Dissension Yo. The mind gives up and let’s some flow right back through anyways. We be the righteous hooligans Imprisoned Yo And derived from nothing. The less we speak, will come out better. You know your on your way to something great. The best we’d be, is all I’ll ever. When your made to feel your way through full visualization. And then the mind gets full again. Just mention Yo. The eyes give up and let’s some flow right back through in space. We be the righteous hooligans Big Pimpin Yo And derived from nothing. The less we speak, will come out better. You know your on your way to something great. The best we’d be, is all I’ll ever. When your made to feel your way through full visualization.

Play Dead 03:13
Play Dead Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. Music by: The Big Hurt I’m right in the open, With my head against the ground as you refuse to swallow your view. In the heightening of your consciousness you fell. As we fade into The shit I guess Where all in all there’s So much there it’s That much less. And we’ve made it through So just play dead Where all in all it’s Only nothing on your hands. I’m right in the open, or did the hand convince the sound if you concede the folly’s on you. You were frightening with you instances when that made no sense. As we fade into The shit I guess Where all in all there’s So much there it’s That much less. And we’ve made it through So just play dead Where all in all it’s Only nothing on your hands.

All I Know 04:16
All I know Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. Music by: The Big Hurt Well I feel enough inside and you knew it. I found my way. With them saying yeah. I found my way. And my feet is in the fire and through it, I found my hate, with them. For the life of me that they owe where in the light I’m senseless if the one that sets you free I’ll make you throw it. - and it seems with all I know I don’t have a lot to say. For the life of me that they owe where in the light I’m senseless if the one that sets you free I’ll make you throw it. - and it seems with all I know I don’t have a lot to say. For the life of me that they owe where in the light I’m senseless if the one that sets you free I’ll make you throw it. - and it seems with all I know I don’t have a lot to say.

Lessons 04:46
Lessons Words by: William A. Martin Jr. Music by: The Big Hurt How many lessons will they break my nose? I'm no less afraid. (yeah) Them put the limitations on my rights. and I'm not for sale. (Word) Cause I'm the ill Doctor, punk officer and I'll live it right up until it's time it dies. I've been high, it does not mean unaware. Your not free until you fly. And we be killing em with all my heart. I know what to say. (yeah) And they be criminal and so right on. And I'll represent. (word) Cause I'm the ill Doctor, punk officer and I'll barley give up until I'm done with that. I've heard I'm floating underneath your window. Your not free until you fly. And they be killing em with all my heart. I know what to say. (word) And we be criminal and so right on. And I'll represent. (yeah) Cause I'm the ill Doctor, punk officer and I'll live it right up until it's time it dies. I've been high, it does not mean unaware. Your not free until you fly. Don't be safe, don't get old. It's better if you say it and harder to live it. Don't be safe, don't get old. It's better you say it. Better you say it.

Low Down Ho 03:12
Low Down Ho Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. & Robert Akins Music by: The Big Hurt You would always be the one To try and keep a brother happy. Lately maybe I’ve been feeling kind of crappy. Low down ho. Yes I admit this shit just makes me sick. If I come quick she’s out the door. Man I don’t know. So why’d you have to be that way? Hotter than a cigarette and everybody’s smoking. She leaves me once again I don’t know why she had to go. She’s got my CD’s, VCR, TV and remote control at the pawn store. So why’d you have to be that way? Hotter than a cigarette and everybody’s smoking. So get to stepping woman you’ve got me feeling low. She’s trifling and scandalous I’ll miss the loving but she’s stepping on my toes. Low down ho. Why’d you have to be that way? Why’d you have to be that way now? Low down Ho.

Low Rider 04:48
Low Rider Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. & Timothy M. Johnson Music by: The Big Hurt I really don’t have to think to make it cool. I really don’t have to play you by the rules. Lord I’ve been giving up of my Sunday’s, Wasting all of my fun day just for you. But if you really want to ride with me, Well we’ll probably think of something to do. It really ain’t hard for me to be down with you. Even when the situation isn’t cool. How come I’m giving up of my Sundays, Wasting my fun day just for you. But if you really want to ride with me, all we got to do is nothing. Loving in the low rider. Loving in the low rider. Loving in the low rider and I’ll Put the gear shift down so you don’t hurt your – Back when ya’ll would’ve thought our love was new. Oh I’d always been so into you. Lord I’ve been, giving up of Sundays oh just for you. And I know you want to ride with me, Cause we like to keep it jumping. Loving in the low rider. Loving in the low rider. Loving in the low rider and I’ll Put the gear shift down so you don’t hurt your – Back up into me. Remove all superstition. When I was in first grade you weren’t even thinking. (Who-ay) No hotel room. Love on thee side of the Highway is definitely good when it’s done with you Yes. Said. Don’t mess around. Cause our generation is holding. Lord don’t mess around. Cause our generation is holding. Said. Say.

Ditty 04:00
Ditty Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. Music by: The Big Hurt The rising sun will come bless I would taste no pain. You’ve got love today. The rising sun will come bless I would taste no pain. You’ve got love today. We’re high enough to blaze above the endocrine. You have right to say and be mystified. The rising sun will come bless I would taste no pain. You’ve got love today. We’re high enough to blaze above the endocrine. You have right to say and be mystified.

Disrupt 04:44
Disrupt Lyrics by: William A. Martin Jr. Music by: The Big Hurt Race me to the fold I see the end. Impervious to you I don’t care how low. So now you know it’s only what you say. That crash into the page and blaze a path against the earth and sky. So how’d you love to go disrupt the change? This is everything, without a doubt. This is everything, somewhere. Race me to the fold I see the end. As ominous to throw I can’t care how low. So now you know it’s only what you say. That amasses into space to raise the tracks against the dead and died. So how’d you love to go disrupt the change? This is everything, without a doubt. This is everything, somewhere. So how’d you love to go disrupt the change? This is everything, without a doubt. This is everything, somewhere.

about

This was our first album and this being a learning process, there are some things we may have done differently and some things we are pretty proud of. For a band (in its current formation) that has only been together for a short time, actually putting out an album was a huge step. There is often a misconception on what it takes to be a successful band. Getting together to create and play music is the easiest part. You’re doing what you love. When you have musicians as talented as we do, you often come up with some great stuff. The difficult parts are battling addictions, egos, incarcerations, girl problems, low times, slow times, over looking the general negative bull shit and just trying to stay together.

That being said, after all the struggles, this is our Album Lessons. "If they were easy they'd be forgotten." We were on a limited budget so we couldn't really waste time in the studio recording every song. Instead, we decided to choose songs which would highlight all of our influences. The result was an album with a mixture of styles including Rock, Reggae, Drum & Bass, Funk, Acid Jazz, Ska, Punk, Hip Hop, Go-Go, Jungle, Trip Hop and probably some other stuff. We felt each song gives a glimpse of us as a group. That’s the Big Hurt. 6 different individuals with many different personalities that have remained together long enough to put out an album. Only the future can tell what's next...........
